Just a crazy idea

You know what after reading you Albany guys whine on how you getting shafted on the current contract and how you want everything to be fair, I’ve changed my mind on the Cue. Siena should play there every other year, In the interest of fairness Siena should get 2250 seats each year and in keeping with the fairness issue Siena will give UAlb 2250 tickets the following year at the Pepsi,( fair is fair)  since we are only exchanging tickets, each team gets to keep the revenue from its respective home game

That should let Bob and OldDog sit in their cushy season ticket seat at the Cue, of course it won’t do anything for the 2,000 or 3000 Albany fans that won’t get to see the game, but what the heck Bob  and Old dog will be all set. I’m sure McElroy won’t mind the potential 50K a year he’ll pass up  by not  playing at the Pepsi as long as Bob and Old dog are happy in their season seat ;-) Hope that works for you guys ;-)

Enjoy boys

That's a mature response on your part, Tony. Why don't you deal with the real issues?

Let me ask you an honest question, Tony? Did you ever attend an event at the Pepsi that wasn't a Siena basketball game? If so, did you sit in the same seat as your season ticket? Did you expect to sit in the very same seat?

Becuase that is ST MO when he doesn't have anything constructive to say. All I am asking for is the same contract that is agreed to between 99% of equal teams. That is you play one game at one teams home and one game in the others. It works for NJIT/Siena. It works for Bucknell/Albany Utah Valley State/Albany and it works for all conference teams unless the league is 2 big for a home and home. It doesn't matter if the homes are 5 miles away or 2500.

I think a standard contract the visitor gets 50-100 seats. I can live with that in this series. We don't need any seats for the at siena game if we get a home game.

And as Old Dog pointed out we are only talking about the next contract.

Ok Bob write you AD and demand every other year be played at the Cue and Siena only gets 50 tickets. Thank you for your well thought out and fair ( cough) position ;-)

People...get over it.

Facts:

-Game will never be played at the Cue

-UA will get a better $$$ deal

-Some other seats will be reserved for UA

-Alternating home team in series

-Share of local TV and AD revenue not earmarked for the TUC.

I would bet it all that at least 3...maybe 4 of those will be addressed in the next contract.

The game will ONLY be played at the TUC..and it will not be discontinued.

My point is you guys are arguing over nothing.  Not a thing we say on this board or any other board will have any effect on the contract.  I am 100% confident continuing the game is in the best interest of both Albany and Siena. I am also 100% confident the two sides will work out a fair deal. What that deal is I don’t know.  But I do know whatever the deal is; I’ll be at the game

All we are doing is repeating the same thing over and over.  Send your thoughts to your AD and lets let the two  AD’s work out the details. I’m quite confident the deal will be better for Albany this time around – fair enough?

Didn't I already say that I did that in the fall when the tournament that Siena was hosting was made public. I guess I wasn't clear as to who I told and I would suspect one reason that tournament did not happen was that Siena either would not or could not offer participating teams a fair contract. And I did mention that I have full confidence in our AD that the next contract will be fair or their won't be one.

I can't guarantee I will be at the game. I could be at a football playoff game if there is one at the same time. I only guarantee I make as many Albany games as possible(usually about 20 basketball games a year, plus as many as possible in just about every sport)

BTW, Siena Tony I almost forgot to say I know you will be at the Albany-Siena game. It is not like siena could possibly have a bigger game going on at the same time.

1) My Jim Crow analogy, once again, refers to FUTURE contracts. We are equal now, so we should have equal seating arrangements. The analogy is NOT stupid, and I resent your condescension.

As I said, reasonable minds can diagree so I'll stop responding, except to say again that the Jim Crow analogy is off the mark. Siena and Albany are competitors for attention, money and fans, Siena has no direct control over Albany, neither team is required to play these games and Siena doesn't make the rules. Both will try to negotiate the best contract possible for themselves, let's see how it turns out. My guess is that both sides will ask for the moon, neither will be completely happy with how it turns out and both will claim victory to their fan bases and off the record.

Best of luck to the Danes the rest of the way.

I think I solved the problem with the two game issue. It just came to me eating Gyro at my desk...

Solution #1

We played one on Saturday night. Let's see both clubs rip through the rest of the OOC schedule and win their respective conferences. With a little luck and a couple of hundred bucks to the selection committee (each member) we can get an 8/9 match up in the East Regional in March. I know it sounds kooky but I'd love to see that one. Don't like it? Think it is impossible, read on because it gets worse from here.

Solution #2

I think (if my memory is not shot from all the booze) that the first year of interleague play in the MLB, the Mets and Yankees played a home and home double header, complete with Police Escorts over the Whitestone Bridge and everything. Can't we do it in Albany? We can get APD to shut down Madison Avenue and Western Avenue and both team busses get a Police Escort through Scenic Downtown Albany coming from the TU Center on their way to the Cue. It has merits. I don't know about basketball double headers but this one would certainly draw a great deal of hype for the local programs (both of them). I can see the street lined with fans waiting for the buses like a Presidential motorcade coming tearing a** down Western Avenue. People could make signs and the whole thing. I LOVE THIS IDEA!!!

As you can see I have gone completely mad. Just tell them I wear a 52 when they are fitting me for my straight jacket!

Sucks to BU! (either one of them)

Year six is over! Does Siena have anothr team on the schedule that for six years has averaged over 10,000 fans. It is a no brainer! The fans want it, the students want it and the athletic departments better want it or they are brain dead. A deal will be worked out for ONE game per year at the Pepsi/TU or whatever. Since this game has such a financial impact on the city, maybe the city should have some input on the game. Especially to control ticket prices to make them family friendly and get rid of those black curtains.

These are my thoughts on the subject of the renegotiation of the Siena - UAlbany contract. First off, i was under the impression that the game thgis past Saturday was the final one under contract, but one newspaper reported last week that there is still one more year to go on the current contract. Secondly, I thought it was a nice touch that they introduced our players with the spotlight Saturday. I don't really care for the spotlight thing, but it was nice to see the manner of introductions of the two teams being more equal than in the past.

My beliefs are (1) that the game should continue to be played (2) that only one game a season should be played (3) that the game should be played at the Pepsi, at least until such time as either school substantially increases the seating capacity of their respective on campus facilities, (4) that UAlbany should benefit more financially than it does under the present contract and (5) that some accomodation for better seats for UAlbany fans needs to be made. Ideally, i agree with Dane Pound's vision for a game with a line right down the middle of the arena. I recall seeing it done once for a Kentucky - Louisville game and have been intrigued by it ever since, however i am not delusional enough to think that Albany - Siena rivals Kentucky-Louisville, nor do i believe that the next contract will treat the sides equally.

I understand why the concept of affording UAlbany a ticket allocation to sell and retain the proceeds of was established, and think it made sense at the time. The concept caused a great dilemma to UAlbany fans. We could buy our tickets from the allocation and thus support our school, or we could buy through the arena box office, get better seats, but financially support Siena. I've always bought through our ticket office, but i understand the thinking of those who chose the other approach. I think the time has come to remove this dilemma for UAlbany fans.

My proposal would be that certain sections be set aside for UAlbany fans, probably the endzones, so that if you want , you can sit in an "Albany" section and that the proceeds of all sales to all fans in all sections be put into the common pot, to be divided among the schools according to a negotiated percentage (i don't know really if 60/40 is fair. or 65/35, etc.). An Albany fan, thus will be able to choose to sit in a worse seat, but be within a group of like minded fans, or may purchase a better seat, but within a section probably dominated by Siena fans, without feeling that he/she is abandoning his/her school financially. It seems to me that attendance and support is far more predictable now, than it was 6 years ago, and by simply negotiating a percent of the overall revenue, both sides can have some predictablility, and a fair result.

I did not sit in the nosebleed seats on Saturday, but i was surprised (and dismayed) at the way the Albany ticket allocation was made. Instead of allocating one entire section (from row A to back wall of the arena) they should have allocated the first 8 or so rows of the second level of three adjoining sections. That is how it was done two years ago.

If you check out Will Brown.com he has some ideas about the future of the series. I very much like his idea that the winning team is the home team the next year.

Thanks, Dane Pound, for calling my attention to the update. I had been checking for several days and even this morning for new developments.

I like the fact that we have this contact with our coach. For some of us who are not exactly local, it is a real way to connect.

I think Will Brown's opinions on future Siena games are right on the money. He's flexible about some of his ideas, but he emphatically believes that we have equal status to Siena and that we no longer need to be so modest on our conditions for playing future games. A lot of us need - including some of our own fans - need to catch up with reality on this issue.

He provides good insights on tomorrow's game. I like the fact that he said the team had a good focus yesterday and is not suffering from a bad letdown that some teams experience after a big game. The team we play tomorrow may be the second or third most difficult team we have on our schedule, and I hope we can use our home court advantage to our benefit. Any students out there know how much VCU is being talked up? We need you there!

Thanks again, DP, for your heads up.
