vs Siena

That flagrant was absolute BS though...Santillo tweeted that it happened right in front of him and that there was nothing there. UA had the ball and they got two FT's and the ball out of it.

It certainly is an argument against instant replay. They took the original bad call, watched the monitor and made it worse. Unbelievable. But not the reason we let a $iena team hang around.(before losing to them)

I will say this: The Siena announcers were not happy that you have go to instant replay to make such a call...they felt it takes away from the game and it was too close of a call to change the way the game was being played.

That said, they also correctly pointed out that unfortunately the new Flagrant 1 Rule "forced the refs hands"; Mike did make contact with his elbow to Downey's face (From the angle used in the TW3 feed)...and that is what the call is supposed to be for.

They disagreed that the intent was flagrant...so I actually respected those guys for being non-bias on that.

Coach Abe: 2 for 2 against Siena (including this year's blow-out win), and she also has an NIT Championship to her credit.

Yeah, let's take two separate sports and compare them.

Lest we forget, VT needed a tip in to beat Siena.

You just lost to a 2-5 cross-town rival; rationalize away.

If not this year...WHEN?

Don't play me, CC. Up 19 in the first half...

If it weren't for bought allegiance, we would be "Trinaing" this program. (That turned out real well, didn't it?)

LOL...you think you have some sort of influence. You're delusional with each day.

Why don't you go figure out what's going to be your next FOIL request.

Brown failed in this game...as did some of the players. But at least recognize WHAT he failed at instead of bitching and whining like a four-year old.

Bought allegiance...hehehe...what exactly did "Click" buy? Come on now....

Tough to watch the last 25 minutes. Siena looked like they wanted it more...played harder, contested every shot we took in the 2d half. No reason to hit the panic button, with some winnable games coming up, and conference games not starting for a couple of weeks, but this loss revealed a lack of toughness, that is always a cause for concern.

We never attacked the Siena press. Siena was not turning us over much, but we wasted 10-15 seconds each possession breaking the press without gaining an advantage or getting any easy baskets. We also stopped pressing, which allowed Siena to comfortably work the ball inside on almost every possession. Time to hit the delete button and move on with the season.

s a final thought, this game really should be played on a Saturday night. The TUC had almost no energy at the opening tip. Announced attendance was a joke. Maybe 6500 bodies in the building. Many empty lower bowl seats (including the UA sections which our ticket office claimed were "sold out" last week).

THIS...THIS....THIS...THIS.

That's what the complaint should be...and a reflection of what went wrong in this game.

If I were the coach...I'd put the rebounding plate on top of the hoop...and practice rebounding a majority of the next practice. Next, I'd practice attacking the press...and use frickn broomsticks to simulate getting it over the top of a guy (we did that well maybe twice on the wings...thankfully, we had a guy in the middle a couple of times...but if memory serves correct it was Suero...who was all over the place with his dribbling).

I'll keep this one for posterity, and then respond...so, it's cool for you to call out every poster on this board, but if they dare question your "omnipotence", then they have the issue, right?

P.S.: VT = Virginia Tech; UVM = Vermont. (And basketball and basketball are not two separate sports.)

I'm stopping here. BAD LOSS!

No denigration of an already strained fanbase needed.

Haggy...go Bing yourself.

Dane Pound...you can ban me now.

Haggy...I will be at the Big Purple Growl. You and your weirdness can talk $iena to my face.

I appreciate the sentiment, but your opinion of me is well known.

So, to be clear: I get to watch a basketball game and talk $iena to you? Count me in. I just hope the line isn't too long.

Some of you guys have to come off the ledge before you kill yourself.

First Off Siena scored 64pt including 6 pts off banked threes. (Defensively 58pts is adequate to win even this game actually 56 if there is no Flagarant on Black).

Siena gets a flagarant "T" called on Mike Black when we have the ball in our offensive end and he's gaetting hacked (2 points and possession to Siena)

UA went to the Free throw line 5 that's right 5 times

Coming into this game UA gets to the FT line avg 25 FT attempts a game. It wasn't like we didn't get hit a little.

UA gives up a big first half lead ( partially because of two banked threes)

We came out and started the second half getting 4 layups in its 1st 5 possessions and comes away with no baskets and zero FTs.

Like it or not we have to live with some of Suero's shortcomings he just learning the game. he's just a raw talent right now.

It's also evident that Puk and Devlin aren't near 100% ready to play. I really feel for Luke with out them we have only 1 guy bigger then 6'5"

Extremely disappointing loss, a terrible loss but our real weakness was exposed - we got killed by not being able to body up on Walters and OD and they overpowered us on the glass

This is a game we should have won - lets see what happens from here.

Normally agree...but in this instance, there were absolutely no in-game adjustments other than getting a guy on Hymes. I was just shocked at what I saw on the defensive end in the 2nd half. Yes, 6 pts on lucky banks...and even the throw up by Walter (or Ansokie...don't remember) with no time on the shot clock in the lane. And heck, I will even give the flagrant (that was not a flagrant foul...and even the Siena announcers were not happy that you have to go to a TV monitor to make such a call). But that is no excuse for giving up a 19 pt lead...even in a rivalry game.

That said, we will live by the Suero/Aronholt sword...and die by it. Both couldn't play defense if their life depended on it and it now doubt put pressure on the guys down low. But to give up 17 Offensive rebounds is inexcusable.

I will say this...I thought the fouls were deplorable; or the lack thereof called on Suero drives.

All in all...its just a game...and it won't hurt our seeding...it wont hurt our attendance...and it wont hurt our conference prospects.

WHAT I DON'T LIKE...is giving up big leads is becoming a problem. Forgetting some defensive adjustments that arguably could/should/maybe should have been made (and I agree that not having a Puk and Devlin at 100% hurt us in this game)...my real issue was the guys looked like they were in slow motion in the 2nd half. With a week of rest...you should not be getting beat for loose balls and nearly every offensive (defensive from our end board). It is up to the coaching staff to find a way to light a fire under these guys...and right now...having a big lead is not a plus for us.

Look...if they use this as a teaching tool...and the guys respond...it's all forgotten. But I think it hurts more because of the rivalry...and whether the team/school/or the coaching staff like or admit it...it IS A RIVALRY GAME TO MANY OF US.

Let's turn the page...and make something out of this loss. But my g-d do we need production from Luke and Puk...ASAP!!!!

I strongly disagree that this won't effect attendance. Each and every loss is effecting attendance. This one being a cross town rival will lose fans.

On top of his on floor coaching that I have issues with, CB's lack of enthusiasm is also a problem. This is not just another game. He should watch Army/Navy this weekend and take notes. That's a non conference, meaningless game too.

For what it's worth, my 2 cents.

First of all Vermont beat $iena @ home, an opportunity we never get.

Second this is and should be the most important game on our schedule and should be treated by the coaches and players as such (and if it is NOT the most important, than why play it at all???). I do not agree with those who say it is all about winning the conference (why so we can go to the ncaa which we will NEVER EVER win {unless there is a dramatic impossible change in NY state political feelings towards athletics--where's our stadium Oh I mean multi use field???}

Thirdly, this was/is a no win game for UA, if we win it is only because $iena is down, injured, tired, etc.. If we lose we are chumps.

I was @ the game only because (I confess) I bought cheap seats. I really really feel UA has nothing to gain and a lot to lose by playing in this, especially if they are not taking it seriously. It is NOT just another game. Many intercity rivals do not play each other for reasons similar to what I have mentioned; and only recently to save a little on travel some long time rivals are playing again, but most still don't unless they are in the same league.

Enough ranting--we lost because we missed 5 lay-ups in the first five minutes of the second half, we got killed on the boards and $iena got three banked threes that really had no right at all for going in. To say we lost the game is certainly more appropriate than saying $iena won.

What do we have to lose by playing this game other than our dignity as fans and a fist full of hair? Let's face it, Siena plays in a better league as the AE has continued it's slide over the last 5 years. 4 of 5 years ago when we were in the 18-22 range you could argue with LCC fans about leagues, today that argument is a joke. The AE is a bottom five conference for the foreseeable future. When you have the likes of Bing in their current state, UMBC who is borderline a DII team, Hartford who god knows when will get another D1 win, UNH and lets face it our own TWO count it TWO 20 win seasons in our DI existence what can you expect. As painful as it is to admit it we as a program can't hold a candle to Siena...that's a fact. I know people will bristle at that and say it's not true and trust me, I hate those smug SOB'ches over there as much as the next guy but we need to open our eyes.

We have nothing to lose playing this game but our dignity, when your own administration refuses to stand up and fight for an equatable contract when UVM gets a home and home, why are we blaming Siena and their administration? In our DI existence going on what 11 years we have TWO count them TWO winning season...TWO. Time to look ourselves in the mirror.
