Recruiting - 2015

I get McKinley leaving if Baker is going. I might even guess that leaving was partially because of how bad this winter and Spring were - but those 2 are from Minnesota. Shouldn't phase them, LOL.

I wonder if it has a little to do with all the speculation that Brown might leave?

Very strange that we would lose guys from a team that looked like a tight knit family, just won 3 straight titles and appeared in the NCAA, and only appears to be stronger next year.

Maybe Baker thought he was going to have another year of under 20 mpg, and told McKinley that he wouldn't play much as a freshman? I had high hopes of Baker improving a lot next year and getting up to 25 mpg, then leading the Danes for his Junior and Senior year to their 5th and 6th consecutive titles...

McKinley tweeted that he's been released from his LOI..so that gives us 3 scholarships for the spring.

That stinks I loved his height... :/

I think it stinks because now I don't have to continue to insist that he be referred to as "Denali" instead of "McKinley".

The reality is that we've seen our best success with 3-4 year players. We've always plugged in the right pieces with a solid core. Outside of this upcoming year, we're going to have a TON of new faces. Can M. Rowley, Dallas, and Peters take the leap as seniors and lead the team or be big contributors? Remains to be seen.

It's actually notable how big of a role transfers and JUCOs have played in our 5 NCAA trips.

2014-15: 3 starters (Singletary, Sanders, Peters)

2013-14: 2 starters (Evans, Johnson)

2012-13: 2 part-time starters (Guerrier 17, Johnson 7)

2006-07: 1 starter (Siggers)

2005-06: 2 starters (Zoellner, Jordan)

Assuming he's he only Chima Moneke playing this year, he's played for the Northeast Community College Hawks of Norfolk, NE

Chima-Moneke.jpg

Chima Moneke - 6-7, 220 SO Canberra, Australia Forward

Prep: Chima played in back-to-back Australian high school championships. He averaged a double-double each of the last two seasons. He scored 42 points in one game during his senior year and recorded a 20-rebound game. Chima was listed as one of the top up-and-coming Australian basketball players in the Class of 2013.

College: Chima appeared in 28 games as a freshman, recording 14 starts. Averaged 10.7 points and 7.2 rebounds during his first season as a Hawk. Had a career high 26 points against Indian Hills Community College. Recorded five double-digit rebounding games and had 33 blocks last season.

Major: Health, PE, and Recreation

Parents: Sydney and Eucharia Moneke

Averaged 17.2 ppg and 12.0 rpg this year, looks well-built in the team picture here

I'm a glass is half full type of guy. I'm disappointed with the transfers and McKinley backing out. Given the program's success and positive high profile I think we may get a few guys who would normally be beyond our reach.
