Game #1: 9/4/21 - 3:30PM @ North Dakota State

Well, I’m not surprised at the outcome - NDSU is a much better team.  We need better offensive line play.  Most of Undercufflers passes were short / quick routes - it’s hard to throw it deep or have longer developing routes when he has no time.  A previous post mentioned making reads - you can’t make reads when you have no time.  Also hard for Mofor to run when we can’t create holes.  Our defense also continues to struggle against the power running game.  I’m not sure why NDSU didn’t just line up and run right at us.  The good news is we might have found a playmaker in Roy Alexander.

Hope to get a win against URI - they looked really good against Bryant.

Also, apparently Coach Gattuso made a comment about NDSU being classless for throwing a pass late in the game.  He said something similar a few years ago about Villanova.  I’m sure he’s trying to protect the players but these comments aren’t helpful.

Yep. Our size is better than it was in GG's first year where we were like 5 inches shorter and 100lb lighter at every spot but we still have a ways to go to be at the top of the FCS in size.

Don’t think size is gonna be a problem. Our lines, receivers, and DBSs are all significantly bigger than in the past.

program seems to be going in the right direction

If it was in their last series, it was their backup quarterback, so I wouldn't have a problem with that.

In general, I think we need to dial back the anxiety and criticism. This is NDSU. They won 8 out of the last 10 national championships. FBS schools stopped scheduling them because they’d get beaten. This game was the FCS equivalent of Miami getting demolished by Alabama. A good team getting beaten by an elite team. And Miami gave up 44, UA only gave up 28 and played them pretty even for 30 minutes. NDSU has 13 players from the top recruiting states of Florida, Texas and California. We have 2, I think. They had three players drafted in the first four rounds of the NFL draft. We had none. Hopefully the players came out of the game without getting beat up too much. Let’s see how they perform this week against a team from the CAA.

I meant against teams like NDSU. We hvd a ways to go to compete with the likes of them.

CAA wise, I think our size is more than fine and on the bigger size.

Hey we didn't embarrass ourselves or the conference, we got paid and we tested ourselves.  All in all not bad.  Things to work on yes.  If we have the same result against URI then yes panic but in the words of Mr. Rodgers R-E-L-A-X.  Also let us be grateful we are having a season and a home game for the first time in 2 years.

Unfortunately, the D coordinators around the CAA are on to the plan. Sell out to stop Mofor, pressure JUC in the process and force him into mistakes. The early fumble by Mofor was a real deflator. They had a good drive going and had the Bisons on their heels for a while.

We need to worry about URI because in their win against Bryant, they had the opportunity to run their offense as planned....their defense was not overworked and they got an opportunity to see how deep they are....URI may not be the team that you can take for granted any more

So the Bison won the championship game over Montana State by 28. We only lost to NDSU by 22. Shows how close we are to being a national contender /s

ps Don't show this post to Benson or it'll show up in next year's preseason blurbs.

As a "glass is half full' kind of fan I believe you will find that we are very close to having a good squad. I'm not saying the coaching couldn't  have been better but they really were in most of their games. Once my fan board beating ceases I think you will find they are not that far away. They will be coaching for their professional lives this year. If they had better special teams coaching they probably have 3 more wins but i will not review the season.  I think this new QB will be a lightening rod as he is also trying to resurrect his playing career.

I have sent my recommendation to the ND State AD that they consider moving up to the Football Bowl Subdivision
