  1. Richmond fan here. I watched the game, start to finish. You all are for real. You are the class of the CAA. You have a tough, gritty team. You have made the league better. You have made us proud. Now, you have unfinished business. You won the CAA, now go shock the world.

  2. I've been dormant here for quite a while, I must say that I'm not thrilled about this at all but I know that WB will land on his feet. This however is the last straw for me with MB. I feel like he never made an effort with middle donors and that we were taken for granted as "loyal fans" but our pockets were not deep enough for him. Sad thing is that many members of the Sec 600 crew are now in the position to be giving at a higher level and we are probably going to balk at it. His public lashing of SM over the TK1 Insta fiasco where he was "compelled to publicly repudiate" SM's statement about the NCAA Monopoly showed what he is about. Matter could have easily been dealt with SM releasing an apology statement that says he was acting rashly and responding emotionally and discussed the matter with internal UA staff. Instead MB grandstanded instead of standing my Marr. FOH MB, low class move. So for me this was a dead issue a long time ago, but this gong show just solidified it for me and most of 600 crew, We will continue to support teams but it will be limited to one or two hoops games a year and Lax when my kids aren't playing at their respective schools.

  4. Hey gang. Caught parts of the game yesterday, tough one. I see a lot of comments about the team playing together, etc. I would submit to everyone, that the biggest area to look for growth is with the coaching staff. Going from assistant to HC is a HUGE leap, especially when that leap is not with your home program. I think DK will be fine, but in-game coaching, managing rotations, timeouts, pace of play, adjusting the game plan, responding to kids emotions and doing it all at the same time is something you only learn from experience.

  5. I am excited for Coach Killings and what he brings. I'm beyond happy that at this moment he looks like a great hire. I feel more optimism on the board at this moment than we have had since we still had Cremo and Nichols, we almost beat UVM for the title, and we're about to have 3 aussies who had redshirted and deSousa and Rizzuto about to come in as Freshman. You know, before the 2 stars decided to move on (which I still argue was best for both of them and the right move for them) I know this won't happen anytime in the near future, especially with Benson at the helm, but Brown deserves to have a banner raised on SEFCU next to Doc's. The program might be better off today with Killings than it was a month ago with Brown (hopefully it is or at least will be but that is yet to be determined) but Brown made UA what it is, and should be enshrined with the legend status that he deserves after starting with 0 and sending UA to the dance 5 times over 20 years.

  6. I think the response to this whole pandemic has been what the military refers to as a “clusterf***.” The hyper partisan politics and polarized media coverage have exacerbated everything. Every step or misstep is magnified and used for political advantage. The President runs his mouth when he ought to just shut up. The congressional leadership either remains silent or lies and uses inflammatory language. The so called experts change course on a whim or for a non medical reason. The models and predictions have been horribly wrong. The Gov made some horrible decisions and ridiculous forecasts of medical needs while NYC health officials and the mayor were pooh poohing the whole thing. Modeling a pandemic has been shown to be wildly erratic and overly sensitive to human behavior. No thinking person believes anyone in the media or leadership anymore. Now we’ve got a national movement taking advantage of the situation with often violent and destructive behaviors and local and state leaders allowing and encouraging the behavior. There’s ongoing efforts to defund or defang law enforcement. Monuments are being defaced or destroyed. I love sports and football, but against the backdrop of what is going on, whether or not there’s football this fall kind of doesn’t even register in my worries. Sorry if this is too political for the venue, but it had to be. I’m more concerned about the future of the USA.

  7. It's that magical time of year when we erect our Festivus poles. Wait, that didn't come out right. Happy Festivus! In keeping with tradition, you've have disappointed me greatly and now you're going to hear about it. Now it's time for the "airing of the grievences..." Gattuso, your record - stinks! NCAA, your grad transfer rule - stinks! How far in the pockets of the power conferences are you people? Mark Benson, your policy of throwing people out of Sefcu 30 seconds after basketball games are over - stinks! Some schools roll out basketballs and let kids shoot some hoops on the court after the game. And now, the feats of strength: Stony Brook, our football team had it rough but we still beat you and made national highlights doing it. Lacrosse, final four. Siena, you've lost to us so often you won't even play us anymore.

  8. Remember the days when we could enjoy watching our team play even if we had a crappy season or not. The school is never going to have NBA players it was nice when we had all academic kids who could play and alumni could come during the cold months and enjoy time with friends and family watching some basketball and eating some popcorn. All gone because Benson wanted his own guy and ran over every staff member who wasn't toting his BS (including the Ass. Athletic Director for Development who left recently for Siena). Just have to hope Benson goes too and they clean house. It's his culture that's rotting the Department. Fingers crossed it can get back to some regular semblance at some point. Would really like to enjoy our sports again in the coming years.

  11. I'm pretty sure we're not going to hear what actually happened. The walk-on who played the game for free is packing while the guys who make six-figure salaries hire PR firms to obscure things as much as possible. Here's what I've seen from the outside over the past year: -the Calipari testimonial at the opening presser didn't sit well. -the hiring of Tibbs from Vermont with a scandal didn't sit well. -this past year, I saw more players get techs for mouthing off to officials than I remember in the last 10 years of Albany basketball. -Now, there's whatever the hell this was that puts a cloud over the men's basketball program, no matter how many PR firms get hired.

  12. Great optics this week: -You fire the coach that a large portion of the fan base wanted to keep on the day he and his wife are honored by the American Cancer Society for their fundraising efforts. -You announce a college coaching search that'll cost 50-100K on the same day the university announces it has problems with debt. It's only Tuesday but you're really winning the flippin week UAlbany Athletics.

  13. No need to debate. But am very comfortable in my statement. If Coach Brown wanted to trade in and leverage up he could have at several schools NEVER mentioned on this board. I don’t post behind an alias so I can’t and won’t say more, but my take is that he was too Loyal.

  15. Hello everyone. Wasn’t sure where to post this then I saw the questions about where is David. Looks like you all got most of it right. He is playing in Cyprus and doing well. Recently launched a business during his downtime between games and so far looks like his decision to pass on the G League for Europe was the right call. Wanted to post an interview David recently did as I thought (based on previous discussions) you may enjoy the content. At the 1:06 mark David is asked to compare the coaching staffs at UA and FSU. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/hear-the-spear/id1277871274?i=1000464334984

  17. We have 3 losses by a total of 11 pts. (Lehigh by 4, Manhattan by 6 and Bucknell by 1) in those 3 games we totalled 49 turnovers. in these 3 games we managed to get off a total of 154 FGA. add in 49 turnovers and about 32% of the time we didn't get a shot off. We have to learn to value the ball!!! PS. We could really use Lulka, too. I think is importance is undervalued by most. We need another guard!!!

  20. College basketball games are 40 minutes and with 5 players on the floor that means there are 200 minutes to go around. Last night we played freshman for 101 of those 200 minutes. As good as our freshman our, unless they're named Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett, we're going to struggle early in the season. I'm surprised at the reactions to Lulka. Maybe we all expected him to come with a cape, a big "S" on his shirt and fly around Sefcu Arena. I thought he's been pretty solid for his first two games - Avg 9PPG, 6 RPG while shooting over 58% from the floor. He showed a couple of nice post moves. Right now, our offense is no where near organized enough to get him consistent touches in the post.

  21. Lets not forget that with Joe and David on the roster we did win 67 game in 3 seasons and they were true Student/athletes!!!! We should appreciate them for their accomplishments. Our standard has become the NCAAs so they did fall short there but they really had a good run. I wish them the BEST and hope they are not disappointed at the end of next season.

  22. I'm pretty sure that's our role in those whole thing, isn't it?. We're not players and we're not coaches. We watch youtube clips and look up the 3pt percentages of our recruits. Then next year we'll drive through snowstorms to away games. We'll live and die with each foul call and then won't be able to talk the next day from screaming. We're fanatics, that's just what we do.

  23. However this turns out, thanks to the team, coaches and support staff for putting a quality product on the field. This is the type of game where UA has to play smart, play hard, play near perfect football for 60 minutes AND probably get a couple of breaks to have a chance at the upset. But it can be done and has been done before. I have confidence that this crew will give it their best effort. This season has been a rousing success by any measure, so it’s time to put the whipped cream on top and get a shot at the 🍒 to go with it. Go Danes!!

  24. We have some great conversation and discourse on this board, sometimes it gets heated. We like to be critical of our teams, coaches, and other fans, but we all are striving for the same thing... Success of our favorite teams and the future success of all of our student athletes, wether it be in higher level sports or just in life in general. I'm thankful that I can be part of such an amazing group of fans and such a great institution. Happy Thanksgiving #bigpurplefam! 25. I've been EXTREMELY critical of Gattuso...I've been watching quietly all season. They have done an incredible job with this team. If he deserved the ridicule of past years, the deserves credit for thisl Good for him...probably the best team I've ever seen in my 20 years of watching UA football. Poff is real difference makers and has incredible weapons to toss to. Oline giving him time...defense pins ears back and goes. This is a good product!

  27. I think this quote from Billy Madison is perfect as a response to your blithering idiocy. Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. Mark Benson? Atlantic? Goose Rocks Beach ME? What does any of that have to do with answering the question that was asked? '$iena or get off the pot' applies here too if you aren't a fan of Billy Madison. If you can't answer why there is a lack of assistants listed on the roster, then just keep it movin ol man.

  28. More details. Ticket Seat Capacity is 3,579. Seat breakdown as follows: 1,295 Fixed Seats; 1,630 telescopic seats; 498 Telescopic bleacher seat; 28 Wheel Chair Seats; 28 Loge Chairs (ADA Companion); 98 folding chair Seats; and 9 ADA seats. Total Capacity on gameday, and this is how all arena's get their actual capacity, will be 3,767. My guess is official sellouts will be called at 3, 800. From the plans and due to 9,706 total capacity allowed, It looks like you can easily sneak 500-750 more in SRO. Accoustic levels will be even better than before based on construction setup. The place is deafening when packed. By flipping the court, we don't lose seating, which surprises me. The length of the new orientation 234.6 feet long by 189.10 wide. This is the length of construction area. That surprised me a little bit. The stairways in the building I think will be made larger however as for ADA upgrades, I could not find any. This makes sense (I work with ADA law all day) because we are calling this a rehabilitation. If it were new construction or a COMPLETE gut renovation, very expensive changes would need to be made throughout. This is very typical of construction, the way we are going about this. However, the new Annex building will absolutely be ADA compliant and it has an elevator design per the plans we have see on the Master Facilities planning. It's been awhile since I've walked the core section of SEFCU so I am not sure where the current basketball lockerooms are now. However, it looks like the new ones will be build where I remember the media room and equipment room were on the old design. Additionally, it looks like they are actually using that area PLUS building out to the current arena area under the current lobby entrance (NORTH) stands. Due to this, there are actually MORE fixed seats than previously planned, mostly on the north side, East to West Length of the main stands. This is excellent to have this many fixed seats. The team area (lockers, film room, showers, and lounge area) will run 57' long by 31.2' wide. That's significant space at just under 1,800 sq feet. More specifically, the locker room is 18'1" long by 31'2" wide. The lounge is 38'11" long by 17'2" wide. The film room is 18' long by 14' wide. These are really nice spaces. There will be storage for four goal stanchions and baskets under the West Side Fixed stands. The same setup under the East Side Fixed stands. Including the competition floor, there will be 10 total stanchions in the building. The South Side fixed stands will have 3 storage areas that will each run just under 32' long and maybe 10' wide. The benches will be on the North Side Stands (current Lobby Side). Same with the scorer tables and Daktronic Boards. The South Side will have Daktronic Courtside tables. The Corner Seats in the NE and NW corners are considered Club Seats and will have access to the NE Capital Club and NW Capital Clubs. Plus seats, I believe. The ONLY bench seating will be on the NW goal wall, likely student seating. Each lockeroom will have 16 lockers and an ADA bench. The film room features 21 plush seats and will be carpeted. It will be theater seating, three risers. Each seat will have a tablet arm and will be 22" wide . The LCD touch screen will be 84" There will be a large TV in each of the Capital Club Locations (NW and NE). The brackets are 19' long, which means we are getting LARGE TV's added. Interestingly the face the people who theoretically would be in line for concessions. My guess is it is either solely for concessions or multiple screens including game play. A new, synthetic floor is being installed under each stand, coming up the floor. My length was wrong yesterday. The HEIGHT of the top seat is 21'6 along the main stands (North and South). The length is about45-50' feet from last chair up top to last chair on floor. The math majors can do the algebra from visual distance from last seat. I don't believe this will be Volleyball ready. In fact, it looks like they will be infilling the long jump pit and volleyball inserts. They will replace the competition court, inlaying it with the old flooring (it seems). There will be East, West, North and South camera platforms at the Lobby Level. Some ask about expansion. I can't see any other structural way to expand other than UP to the roof along the walls because I believe there are load bearing supports every 15-20 feet that extend to the roof of the main part of the complex. To do that, you would have to do what SBU did and build a small concourse over a fixed stand. If you do it on the main South Fixed Stands, you could go 130-ish feet by 15'. Based on my reading of the specs, if they are fixed, chair back seats...then you would get maybe 6 rows of seating. Based on the new South Fixed Seating specs, that would result in 375-500 seats depending on design. This could be done when they add the Annex Building since that will be on the South Wall (parking lot) side. Additionally and theoretically, it looks like each corner could technically be expanded...maybe by 120 seats per corner, for a total of 450-500 seats depending on design, by putting concrete elevated fixtures that fans would need to walk under. Or you can do that plus a raised expansion on the East and West behind the basket wall. I find that less likely do to value for seat game view (less value placed by fans purchasing tickets) than either the corner expansion or South Fixed stands expansion. If they did either East or West side raised fixed seating, not including corners, you would have around 90 feet and a depth of around 14'. That would result in about 4 rows and 160-180 seats per East and West Wall...or 320-360 total. If they did all those above, you could potentially build approximately 1,145 to 1,360 to bring total gameday non-SRO capacity to 4,912 to 5,127 and non-SRO ticket sales only to 4,724 to 4,939. All are unlikely given the cost and demand. However, if the demand was there, e.g. we had a consistent season ticket based of 3,000, then someone would have to do a serious ROI on that to figure out if adding that many seats would result in the multiple millions likely required to construct that set-up versus playing a few games at the MVP. If we need 500 more seats...we have a good problem and they could sell SRO regularly.

  29. From the TU on this year's budget https://www.timesunion.com/business/article/UAlbany-gets-75-million-from-state-budget-for-17073172.php?utm_campaign=CMS Sharing Tools (Premium)&utm_source=share-by-email&utm_medium=email ALBANY - The University at Albany's $200 million artificial intelligence initiative is taking off, funded with $75 million from the state's new $220 billion budget. UAlbany President Havidán Rodríguez said the money for what UAlbany calls its Albany AI Supercomputing Initiative, or Albany AI, will be "transformational" to the university as well as the Capital Region economy. "UAlbany is uniquely positioned to leverage this computing power to tackle some of society’s biggest challenges, from post-pandemic health data analytics to K-12 education, robotic surgery, predicting severe weather associated with climate change and developing AI systems worthy of human trust," Rodríguez said in a statement. The Times Union recently wrote about the Albany AI Supercomputing Initiative and the efforts of UAlbany's new director of research and economic development Thenkurussi "Kesh" Kesavadas to make it happen. The $200 million project would include creating a supercomputing center and adding AI, or artificial intelligence, to the curriculum of even first-year students. In his statement, Rodríguez praised Gov. Kathy Hochul and local members of the state Legislature for passing the budget that included the $75 million. He also said that the AI initiative would benefit from Hochul's plan to take SUNY Polytechnic Institute's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering and put it back under UAlbany where it was started. CNSE, as the college is known, is involved in teaching computer chip manufacturing. Next-generation chips and supercomputers are what's needed to power the AI revolution in which devices take the place of humans in gathering data and making decisions based on that data. "Together with Albany AI, the proposed reunification of UAlbany and the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering will propel upstate New York to the forefront of next-generation chip design," Rodríguez said.

  30. I have been out of the loop. It looks to me that DK hired the Siena pollster, who organized a protest by Alice Green and cohorts, which results in UA changing its position and DK pays a $25K fine, probably to an organization affiliated with one of the protesters. I have no opinion regarding DK. I've lost a lot of respect for the UA Administration. I have had no respect for the Athletic Administration for years.

  31. As one of those Ukrainians, it is very welcome and thank you to all of you who have supported the war effort in any which way possible and for your thoughts and/or prayers! I'm from Western Ukraine where the fighting isn't as prevalent, and many people have escaped to that part of the country. Family has managed to stay safe as far as we know although my wife has some college friends who barely got out of Kyiv and my cousins have cousins (on the other side of the family) who were/are in Kharkiv last I heard which is obviously taking a great pounding. Some family escaped to Poland as well. That being said, it may be time to update the overall header a bit once we go back to the regular one with a newer picture of SEFCU (with the 'mood lighting', etc.).

  35. Firing a coach while the university is having financial problems probably doesn't put you in a great position in terms of offering more pay to a new coach. That might have been something he should have thought about last week. Firing a coach who was popular in the community and who many alumni/fans wanted to keep probably pissed off and alienated some of your donors. That might have been something he should have thought about last week. It's a fairly open secret that our AD is looking for another job. The game is, the same search firms that place ADs also place coaches. So, by firing the basketball coach, you get to hire the search firm that might place you in AD job. That might make the search firm happy and they might recommend you for the AD job you really want. I'm actually glad someone might have stepped in and said no to the search firm racket. It seems like it would be tough to hire a guy with previous D1 coaching experience because: 1. if they've been winning, they're probably going to go higher than us to something that pays more. 2. If they're a retread former head coach like say Geno Ford at Stony Brook or Cliff Warren who coached for 9 years and has a below 500 career winning percentage, someone might ask why you fired a guy who has a career winning percentage and 5 NCAA tournament apperances for someone with a losing record.

  40. Most of the accolades Benson gives himself are not really even "his". Most were done by or ushered by other people in the University for athletics. I think most people know that he is not a coaches AD but an administrative AD. McElroy was a Coaches AD but let the administrative side of the house fall apart. Benson was brought in to be the other side of the spectrum supposedly focusing on fundraising and administrative stuff. He also sold himself as someone who would increase community and fan involvement with the program. However the large fundraising that they have done has actually been the work of Development (schools fundraising arm) not Benson. GDAC is actually under Development and is partially under Athletics (joint venture). Securing the scoreboard funds, the football stadium naming rights were also key things that were done by Development. We have more professional season tickets with pictures. And that's really cool but we no longer see much if any advertising on billboards or TV as we originally did when he first got here. There are also few if none GDAC listening sessions etc. (Because we would all be there to complain I'm sure....) There is also no interaction with fans at the games at GDAC area. They now use money to pay for security to kick us out of a basketball game 5 minutes after it ends. And have yet to tell anyone publicly why they are doing that. Then the whole Gattuso thing.... You have that whole seat debacle with the stadium where they told us we couldn't bring in our seats and then retract a year after when they realized they didn't know what they were doing. (Making up that it was UPD) They also charge for parking which I can tell you no other America East School does and barely any school that I go visit for away basketball games does. I truly can't think of the last non UA college sporting event I went to that charged parking. (And the fact that they jack the price for good games is price gouging..) A lot of unkept promises from when he was hired. And agreed as others have pointed out...infact seems worse in many ways. Especially the operations side ...still as bad as it was under McElroy.. we just are now paying more for bad services (but pretty tickets). Hmm I think we got the short end of the stick..

  41. Much better stated Click. Devonte has always been one of my favorites on the team. 2 years ago he was the most athletic guy on the team, and he had a few beautiful Alley Oop dunks that season. He is a hard worker, a great leader, and someone who just seems like a great guy to be around. If he doesn't go on to play internationally, it would not surprise me in the slightest if he became a great coach. That said, his shooting troubles so far this season, and for most of last season, have definitely made it significantly harder for the team to win. Opposing defenses haven't given his shot much respect and have been able to lay off. removing lanes and jamming the offense. If he is on the floor and open, I want him taking shots right now. Including outside shots. Make them or miss them, he needs the opposition to know that he will shoot them if open. No one wants to be that guy that let a low percentage shooter drain a 3 in front of them. If I was the coach, I would probably play him around 25 minutes again, split between the 3 and the 4. If he is hot, time can go up, if cold, lower it a little. As I said before, seems like a great kid and I am glad he is in purple and gold.

  42. So Rizzuto just strolls into the 9th game of the season and, after not playing a minute of D1 basketball drops 13 pts, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. If there are any other Rizzuot/Iatis out there we should totally offer them a scholarship. Also, nice find of Fruscio to set up his score. Best game of the year for Hank. I'm not sure what the MAAC did to Ahmad Clark but had 30 against Canisius and 29 against Monmouth. There were stretches of Ahmad and four frosh out there. That's a good sign. The zone in the first half was interesting. Made rebounding tough though. Monmouth is good for what ails you but a solid step in the right direction.

  47. *If you count the Dampots game. A few thoughts so far: -the in-season play hasn't fully met the preseason expectations. -We haven't been able to put the team on the floor that created the preseason expectations. -We need another guard in the rotation in the worst possible way. -Cam Healy can do just about anything but we're asking him to do too much. -Ahmad Clark isn't driving me as crazy as he did last year. That's not to say he doesn't drive me crazy. He has reduced chucking up threes, more or less. If he takes more than 4 or 5, we aren't winning. You can basically chart that stat out. -Healy and Clark are playing way too many minutes. Did I say we need another guard yet? Both seemed worn down at the end of the Yale and Bucknell games. -de Sousa (if healthy) has no idea how could he can be. -Trey Hutcheson is so much better than I thought. I forget he's playing with a splint on his finger. -Lauderdale and Rizzuto have been two of the most mercurial players I remember in a while. World beaters one game, then very little the next. -We need another guard. Did I say that yet? -I still like this team a lot. I'm prepared to endure some slings and arrows over the next couple of weeks until we can bring some guys back.

  49. Your honor(s), I'd like to submit exhibit #147 into evidence to support the charges of the thread herein, where the defendant Gattuso has been charged with the destruction of an entire football program and demoralizing an entire fan base of seasoned vets into not bothering with attending games. Exhibit 147 = Homecoming Massacre of 2018

  50. They had the longest winning streak in the country until tonight. The way I look at it. Albany beats Morgan State - Morgan State beat North Carolina A+T - North Carolina A+T beat ECU - ECU beat North Carolina - North Carolina just beat Pitt. That means, we're better than Pitt. Simple.
