  1. Richmond fan here. I watched the game, start to finish. You all are for real. You are the class of the CAA. You have a tough, gritty team. You have made the league better. You have made us proud. Now, you have unfinished business. You won the CAA, now go shock the world.

  2. However this turns out, thanks to the team, coaches and support staff for putting a quality product on the field. This is the type of game where UA has to play smart, play hard, play near perfect football for 60 minutes AND probably get a couple of breaks to have a chance at the upset. But it can be done and has been done before. I have confidence that this crew will give it their best effort. This season has been a rousing success by any measure, so it’s time to put the whipped cream on top and get a shot at the 🍒 to go with it. Go Danes!!

  3. We have some great conversation and discourse on this board, sometimes it gets heated. We like to be critical of our teams, coaches, and other fans, but we all are striving for the same thing... Success of our favorite teams and the future success of all of our student athletes, wether it be in higher level sports or just in life in general. I'm thankful that I can be part of such an amazing group of fans and such a great institution. Happy Thanksgiving #bigpurplefam! May your day be spent eating too much food, drinking too much cheer, and wearing your purple and gold glasses! Gobble Gobble Gobble Y'all!

  4. I've been EXTREMELY critical of Gattuso...I've been watching quietly all season. They have done an incredible job with this team. If he deserved the ridicule of past years, the deserves credit for thisl Good for him...probably the best team I've ever seen in my 20 years of watching UA football. Poff is real difference makers and has incredible weapons to toss to. Oline giving him time...defense pins ears back and goes. This is a good product!

  6. Even worse- It is DK's 800k; it is the assistants who will need to get partial payouts; it is the new coach; it is the new assistants. The only thing, and I do mean the only thing that makes this work (other than a boat of cash from Broadview or alumni) is going to Whitesell and giving him moderate cash, and let him bring on a new staff. What is super crazy to me (and we don't know what is in the contract unless someone puts out request for it), why there isn't a buyout clause for Killings. If there is, then I think he is gone. Too much water under this bridge. If there isn't, it's a mistake by Benson. For clarity, Whitesell was owed two years on his contract when he was terminated. However, there was an unrestricted buyout of 500k. So, that means Whitesell (if he is not a paid assistant this year) was effectively paid around 100k less than a two year base salary. Crazy side story, Whitesell's base was only 300k (Killings is in the 372 range), with a 100k extra income guaranteed bonus for a total of 400k in annual income. Long and short of it, he's not going hungry. So, Benson COULD play around with this a bit if he thinks it is over for Killings. Basically offer Whitesell a 2 year deal to take over, pay him only for one of those years if Whitesell is coaching for free this year. If he is not coaching for free, sign him for 2 years and give him a very moderate raise. I truly believe that the ship has sailed on this basketball administration. I just don't see any growth. Let's look at the facts- the team has won precisely 2 more D1 games than it did last year. Yes, there are 7 more to go...however, I only see 2-3 wins as practical. So, a 4-5 win improvement isn't saying much when you consider: the drama that has surrounded this team; the unknown about it's star local player; the seemingly inability to teach defense; the seemingly inability to give up a playing style when it can't produce winning results; a chaotic offense; no in-game chops; and a marketing slogan that hasn't really put fannies in the seats due to the team's inability to win basketball games. It's time...and I don't care that Neely was out, the frosh center is out (who know how much of an impact he was going to have), Amica was injured (been a non-factor his whole career, sadly due to injuries); and his star center is out. The other parts of the team are not great...period. The Capital Region was once an amazing place for low/mid-major basketball. Though separated by 9 miles, collectively Siena and Albany have somehow gone ahead and killed that wonderful aspect of the Region.

  8. We all did say it's house money at this point especially advancing past Idaho...well, house money ran out. Nothing to be ashamed of, thought it would be a closer loss not this shellacking but great year. Let's do it again next fall fellas.

  9. Listen. I was his #1 hater up until now but I gotta give him a ton of credit where it is due and I'm more than happy to eat crow. He's definitely set the arrow trending up majorly. This has to get us some recruits that he can use to make this a regular occurrence. When he teared up, I felt something...good for him to get this.

  10. Saw on Twitter, that LCC is 355 out of 362 in the power rankings (Pomeroy) and are underdogs in every one of their remaining games. I always like to say that they are the worst team on our schedule. I appreciate it when they make that literally true.

  13. Aw, CW….pushed the wrong buttons? For the record, I hope every single UA team plays great and wins championships. That doesn’t mean I like to WATCH it. I don’t watch MLB either….or the NHL or the NBA. So what?? It’s my choice. And just to show you I’m not a totally bad guy, I will watch soccer….especially women’s…unlike 99. I must admit though that you can spend two plus hours watching soccer, get up to use the loo and come back to find out that the only score of the game happened while you were indisposed. Bugs the hell out of me but that’s the way it is. So take a chill pill….I guarantee you that if their daughters were not playing WLAX the parents would not be watching it either.

  15. Yup, season is slipping fast. Nine missed free throws. Allowed 50% from three. Sorry J. Beagle, your a nice kid but at 6'10", you need to play defense, zero fouls tonight. Tells me your not aggressive or physical on the defensive end. Possibly explains lack of interest in the portal last season. Higher teams wanted a banger and lane clogger which he is not. And look at the job the ladies are doing. Played only 7 tonight and beat a solid Maine squad to go 17-2. Unfortunately if this keeps up, coach Mullen may be bye-bye after the season. Of course coach Killings may be bye-bye for another reason.

  16. yea, they did. Been negotiating with ward for over two weeks. Was it a done deal, no. That’s the risk you take in the portal. No idea if they were honest to him. Poff may not even be QB3 in that locker room. He had interest (Poff) from Wash St, UNLV, and a few G5 schools. Like I said, outkicked his coverage. Great kid, love that he’s betting on himself however his handlers at Excel SM were not thinking straight. McCoy and Brosmer were. Scooped up instantly. Says a lot. I expect an opening at Michigan but he’s not capable of that kind of jump. he should reenter the portal. Will Rogers just reentered with Deborrs move to Alabama. It happens. Jaden De Laura is still out there, As is Diego Pavia, Matt Sluka, Tua’s brother (if he get his 7th year), Grayson James (former FAU starter that lost his job), Drew Pyne, and just under two dozen other QBs who were on FBS teams and are in the portal. Reese is way better than many of them but the jobs left to fight for are slim and none. Here’s the deal. Reese can buck up and stay, fight for the #2 job and hope to start in his senior year and enjoy the perks you get playing for Miami. He has to understand that it’s a business at that level and Miami will go portaling again next year. Reese should have stayed or gone a level down (Wash St or UNLV) because if his goal is the. NFL, not playing for two years won’t help.

  19. The season isn't ending how we envisioned - many of us thought we'd be more competitive against SDSU. But it is what it is. That is an impressive program at the pinnacle of our level. Congrats to Greg Gattuso, the staff and the players on a super successful 2023 campaign. No one thought UAlbany would do much this year but ya'll proved everyone wrong and gave the program it's most successful run at the highest level. Salute!

  24. First off, congrats to Greg Gattuso for bringing a CAA championship to UAlbany. It's been a BRUTAL road more often than not, but credit when and where it is due. Hopefully this is the start of him building a perennial winner here. It's unfortunate we didn't get the auto-bid or outright championship. That being said - maybe I'm old school (even though I'm in my mid-30's) but the F bombs, middle fingers, smoking talk post game from the student athletes is... 😒 .

  28. How dare you say Champ doesn't exist?! My wife said she saw Champ when she was a little girl in a fishing boat with her grandparents. Of course they were down in South Bay, which isn't his usual neighborhood. So, more evidence for Champ than the new UVM arena

  31. So with the results of Merrimack surprising win at Bryant today & Vermont beating UMBC these are the scenarios for tonight …., If UA wins: UA is 1st, UVM is 2nd, UMBC is 3rd, Merrimack is 4th. Bryant and Bing are out. If Bing wins, Bing is 1st, UA is 2nd, UVM is 3rd, UMBC is 4th. Bryant and Merrimack are out. Bingo just got a LOT more sense of urgency for tonight otherwise season over

  32. Just a heads-up. This looks like a low traffic week so I'll be running some updates and the board might be temporarily down or look a little odd for a while. Everything should be done by Thursday for the LIU game.

  33. As long as I’m venting…..I can’t understand Poff’s motive unless it’s just to measure himself against a higher level or he really needs the NIL money. I mean, he’s got a lot of polishing up to do before he’s an elite QB at the FBS or NFL level. He’s a great FCS QB, he’s not Drew Breese. The thing is, if he stuck around he’d have a chance at really attracting attention. Try some of those risky sideline passes against SEC speed DBs and his nickname will change from Poff the Magic Dragon to Poff Pick 6. Check out Undercuffler’s stats at Akron, one of the worst teams in one of the weakest conferences in FBS. 4 tds. 9 ints . -201 yds rushing . 1378 yds passing.

  34. Community, it seems this topic is once again on peoples minds and being posted about (on the women's rowing thread). In the interest of full disclosure and with ALL due respect for Dane Pound, I have offered to take over (fiscally and/or administratively) numerous times. Most recently I sent a message on 11/30/23 that has gone unanswered (and unviewed). Personally, I have a VERY strong background in technology and have no issues starting a new board. I could have one up and running in a couple of weeks. In fact, I did one five years ago in 2018 on my own server and @Clickclack and a few others saw a demo of it. It was built during a period of time where the board was going down nearly daily due to unknown reasons. However, those issues stabilized and I didn't let my forum see the light of day. All that being said, out of respect for what DP has built here over the last 20 or so years, I DO NOT WANT a hostile take over or hostile replacement. There is a WEALTH of history on this forum that I would 100000% prefer to preserve; the place just needs a remodel. I truly hope that DP is happy and healthy and just enjoying his life and not caring about the small things, but as Click said in the other thread - we need to have a plan in the event this forum goes dark one day and doesn't come back up; it could happen tomorrow for all we know. There are a couple of us here who have IT backgrounds who could definitely keep this great community going and 2-3 of us (at least) who can probably split the bill, however big it may be. The alternative is that y'all start to learn how to use Reddit or Discord lol. Here is a screenshot of what I built on my local server back in 2018:

  35. Verse, Poff, Juncaj, and Co need to become a selling point of the school. If NIL has turned Power 5 conferences into the minor leagues for the NFL and NBA, then we need to ensure that we sell this as a top destination minor league spot for the P5! Why ride the pine at a P5 school waiting your turn when you can go to the FCS playoffs or NCAA tourney here as a star then transfer. That is what I preached and posted when Nichols and Cremo left, and it is more true now than it was then. I loved Poff, but we all knew this was coming even if we didn't want to admit it. Too much NIL money going around at big schools for him not to. I might question his sanity if he didn't try to transfer. Bring on Van Weber. Give him two years of success then onto the next. It's the reality of the game today, at least until we consistently win and get some deep pocket alums to create our own NIL fund that can pay these kids 6 figures plus.

  36. Jared Verse has declared for the NFL draft and will opt out of playing in the Orange Bowl against Georgia. I wonder if he would have done the same if they were in the CFP. Can’t say that I blame him. He is staring at a possible top 10 draft pick so why risk blowing out a knee in a meaningless game? I’d like to think he’d have stayed if they made the playoffs, but the possibility of life changing money can be a strong incentive to stay healthy.
    3 points
  37. Agreed...we are in the era of hold your breath when season ends. Too bad for Idaho...hopefully some of those kids come back. Having said that, I do NOT discount the possibility that simply put, these kids did NOT want to get their ass beat again by us.

  38. Richmond fan here. The CAA offers the opportunity to get multiple bids to the FCS playoffs. This year we got 4 bids, some years we have gotten 5 bids. The CAA is one of the top 3 elite leagues in FCS. There are 8 teams in the CAA that have had success at the FCS level. These are Villanova, New Hampshire, Maine, W&M, Richmond, Elon, Towson, and Albany. Other former CAA teams, including JMU, ODU, UMass and Delaware made the jump to FBS. The CAA allows that to happen. Right now, seeding really favors the Western teams. It is not fair, but those are the rules. That changes if Albany beats SDSU. I think Albany has the opportunity to really make a statement. Your team is positioned for long term high level success in the FCS. You could replicate JMU's experience. No other league affords you that chance.

  43. They really shouldn't change anything. Mitch B, patsos and carm all had had solid 20 loss seasons there. I would hate to have to stop rooting for them to lose every game by big margins . I am hoping Will Brown finds something better than that.

  46. The Kibbie Dome looks like an oversized quonset hut, not unlike the RPI Fieldhouse, which actually was a Navy warehouse. A quick look at their results since 1945 looks like they don't have much of record vs. Eastern Time Zone schools either, though it doesn't say where those games were played. BTW we were 0-7 vs. Richmond before Saturday, so we're probably due for a western win too.
