That is one possibility....easily could be the other way....the fact that the UAlbany game was postpone earlier... I tend think maybe you are right... other possibility A10 Commissioner contacted America East Commissioner stating I have a spot on the NBC sports channel that want to keep and "is the AE looking for some exposure"...Is the AE team that you would recommend....even the Athletic Directors may have had hand in this

If there is a next time, just let the damn phone ring!

I am a long time, avid supporter of this team, this coach, and this program.....so let me say what we are all hesitant to say:

This team is bad and almost unwatchable; there are probably 3 decent Division One level players on the squad; the level of our talent has dropped off dramatically over the past few years and those players (other than Cam Healey) are grad transfers; there is no plan in place - the current team is just a mishmosh of players thrown together - as opposed to building off some young foundation; we have no real PG; we have absolutely NO inside game; we used to put some fear into high level teams; we used to have a player or two that a team had to worry about - just not the case anymore.

I love Coach Brown and all that he has done for this program (and our school) - but the program is stale and going nowhere with no vision or optimism for the future. I think we have all been patient given the success we had but it’s time for a change. We need a younger coach with high energy who has some recruiting contacts and the ability to tailor his coaching to the talent he has; we also need young, hungry assistants  - hopefully one or two with recruiting relationships - that are able to help the head coach and not just be “yes men.”

I used to look forward to watching this team and used to plan my schedule around their schedule....not anymore. They are not a relevant Div. I program anymore - they are now a team to be called when a team needs to add a W to its schedule.

When I look at how far the men’s and women’s programs have fallen it saddens me....

Nail. Meet head. Especially the bold part. Ask anyone who knows me...prior to last year or this year, I'd skip things just to make sure I caught the game or attended a game. I honestly watched like 5 minutes of this game and said, "Nah, I'm going to go fire up my XBox and play some Madden". I watched more of the Bills/Colts game than I did the UA game (and I'm a Jets fan!).

Our brand of basketball is bland/boring.

Maybe it's the lack of attending games in person due to COVID, but I have almost zero desire these days. Much of the board agrees as our game threads are generally pretty stagnant as well.

It really is sad...

We've been out rebounded in EVERY SINGLE ONE of our games. Rebound advantage and FT line were our bread and butter for a decade...

SJ’s has played a lot of quality teams but the lowest amount of points they allowed prior to us was 83.  We mustered a whopping 64.  And not to beat the dead horse but that’s part of the big problem and has been for years.  It’s boring.  Maybe there’s some nuanced changes but the offense is the same.  It’s boring for us and it’s boring for the players. If you’re a dynamic offensive player would you come here to play?  What’s the pitch? Hey we’ll do 15 dribble handoffs 20+ feet from the hoop, try the slip screen 15 times and then hope someone gets open before the shot clock expires.  We won’t press.  We won’t run.  No thanks.

If we’re going to keep losing at least entertain me.  Score the ball.  2 points in the final 5:35 of that game.  TWO.  Zero in the final 2:38.

We got 13 minutes and 4 points from our freshman and sophomores combined.

I also plan my day around watching the Danes play and have no idea why I even bother.  The offense is just plain horrid.  The rebounding is an issue without Hank or Lulka playing much who give us bulk inside.  The new fellas are more athletic but don't seem to use it to crash the boards, Doles is soft inside.  Kelly gets inside nicely but if it's shut off, he needs to hit jumpers but last night he could not.  Horton, Taylor, and Champion shows flashes but not often enough.  JoJo getting less time, should Amica play some when healthy to see what he has for next year?Hutch and Shaffer give us nothing.  I have to say Rizzuto has been solid, #1 in AE in 3pt shooting, hardcore defense, great hustle.

Too many threes, causing less trips to the line(of course have to make them, an issue this season).  Is Healy the answer?  Don't see it unless he is 100% and shoots like two years ago.  Have NJIT next weekend at home and they are a decent team so far.  Could easily get swept.  If we can only count on wins vs Bing and Maine, then how far has this program fallen?  Frustrating!

In my opinion this program is where it probably should be. People seem to think we’ve had some sort of sustained success and tradition of winning. Yes we’ve had 5 trips to the NCAA tournament, but only 2 regular season championships. That in my opinion is the true measure of sustained success. Sprinkle in those 2 first place finishes the and after that is prob between 4-6th place finish on average.

Damn it Eli, I am trying NOT to like your posts; trying to keep my slim LIKES lead; but you are 100% right on. As are the many who are describing how boring this team is and has been for a number of years now. I am a lot older than most on this blog and have bled purple and gold for over 50 years. I was at a UA basketball game 2/1/1975 and 1/28/1980 and a thousand others. These two days stand out, because two of my sons were born on those days. Yes I was at a basketball game hours after my wife gave birth. The only reason I was not at a game on my third son's birthday, was there was not a game scheduled 12/4/1986. Two years ago, I was at a UA basketball game less than a week after having a kidney removed.

Several years ago I started losing interest in football. Kept my season tickets and attended regularly but did not need much of an excuse to miss a game; and certainly would not pay to see tv or streamed games. Starting to feel the same way about basketball. The only sport that I still bleed for is lacrosse; and if UA does not do something soon, that sport will suffer the same mediocracy that football and basketball have reached. I know and rightfully so, everyone has their favorite sport and allegiances.

IMHO, the problem lies at the top; aka the athletic director. People can call for coaching changes; {head or otherwise}, new  offensive or defensive strategies, better recruits, better facilities . And they may indeed be right on!  When so many programs indeed ALL (except perhaps track) are spiraling into mediocracy or worse, who do you blame???????

I agree with what many of you have said about the state of the program. I too used to never miss a game, schedule events around games, go in person by myself or with my kids and read this board constantly (without posting for a long time, until recently). Its not exciting anymore. I don't feel like the offense being "boring" is the problem. Lets face it, in 20 years we haven't had teams that throw up 80 points a game. We are used to a hard nosed grind. The boring part is we don't win and we aren't even really competitive anymore. We can't beat high majors anymore. Will Brown used to say when we would show up to play the high majors "Why show up if you don't plan on winning?" And we would hang tight more times. I don't think we could even hang for 10 minutes since Nichols and Cremo left years ago.

I am glad to see that this board hasn't turned against the players with really harsh criticism like last year, but I am also disappointed to see how apathetic everyone and everything has become around this program. There are so many times where I have no idea who is on the floor for Albany. I used to know everyones jersey number and name. I used to know the schedule so I could tune in to road games. I used to be really engaged in what was happening and look forward to it. I am sure we can get back there, and will, but I don't know how and who is there when we do.

This is a program that has been a in trouble for a while. Over the last few years I've been very vocal in my disappointment. Now I can't even work up the anger to light myself on fire here.

Let's face it, the cold hard truth is that this program is dead or near dead. A program pretending to be Div 1 for whatever reason. A few years ago it started going sideways and now plowing new depth of emberassing. I'm not calling out the kids who are trying nor am I gonna go in on them. From AD down this program is a failure though....remains to be seen if the train can be put back on the tracks.

This is a 6 or 7 win season at best...parts are mismatched, offense is horrid, defense only marginally better...roster construction makes no sense. There is nothing down low on either side of the ball, they play small so can't rebound or defend but commonly if you go small you give up rebounding and defense but gain on the offensive end...what do we have? One of the worst offensive teams in the country, the numbers bare this out.

To put it succinctly, there are a few bright moments that give a fan hope but that usually ends in more losing when all is said and done.

It's hard to watch a once proud program go out and collect L's like that is it's sole purpose. A problem in the making going on a half a decade with no end in sight. Amd that sucks...

Good synopsis.  It's true, hard to only blame the players who appear to be trying hard but may be over recruited or poorly coached or in the wrong system.  I have said before, the coaching staff, all CB disciples, are not adding anything to the program right now.  We all loved Jon Iati when he played and I assume he would like to be a head coach soon but who would call on him to run a program right now?  He would be better leaving to be an asst elsewhere in a winning program and get a shot in a couple years.  If Benson ever fires CB someday, the whole staff is gone too if I was the new coach with no loyalty.  Would Benson promote Iati? Nothing against Iati, but I would hope not, need a fresh start.  And for Lax fans, similar situation is brewing on the Lax team with Marr and his staff.  All starts at the top Mr. Benson???  Are you leading the athletic dept or not?

I don't follow LAX really, but based on what I'm seeing, we COMPLTELY BLEW IT when it comes to what we had a few years ago as the #1 ranked team, legit chance to get deep in the playoffs, etc.

As for the program being a stepping stone...not sure I like that either. Look what happened to WBB when we started to go to that model. Abe built a powerhouse, Mac did great with it and then bounced and then this new coach has done absolutely nothing similar to Brown.
