  1. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/40024327/uab-becomes-1st-d-football-team-join-players-association Continued deterioration of amateur athletics. Now they can get a cut of the money the BIG schools are making off of them? In addition to NIL? These kids are going to be making millions. Their educations should no longer be free. In fact, they should not even bother going to school and these teams should just disassociate with the term 'college' or 'university' in general. This is a disgrace. I've done a 180. I am completely against NIL and college kids making money. Wish they didn't get a cent. If this continues, I'm probably going to give up on college sports and just follow the pro leagues. I can't deal with 80% of the basketball team being replaced every year.

  2. So with the results of Merrimack surprising win at Bryant today & Vermont beating UMBC these are the scenarios for tonight …., If UA wins: UA is 1st, UVM is 2nd, UMBC is 3rd, Merrimack is 4th. Bryant and Bing are out. If Bing wins, Bing is 1st, UA is 2nd, UVM is 3rd, UMBC is 4th. Bryant and Merrimack are out. Bingo just got a LOT more sense of urgency for tonight otherwise season over

  3. I think any team at our level would be pleased with MJ on their roster. Good kid, tough defender, tireless motor….sorry to see him go….especially to THAT team.

  4. It’s sad this crap continues in our game by fools like #16 on Merrimack. I’m glad that their AD did immediate investigation & kicked him out of the program postgame as well as apologized to our entire locker room. That team is pretty classless in both games we played them since they came to AE. They are leaving for MAC next year good riddance. You win national championships at D2 level act with some sort of class.

  5. His program is notorious for this type of bull$iena. I live not to far from Andover and his demeanor, which goes down to the team, is beyond bro like. Glad he got the hook.

  6. If he had an Empire Scholarship isn't that just budget management? The kid goes for free, so why not spend the money on outside of NY players.

  9. To his credit he's worked himself into a viable D1 player but he will always be a good role player. Which is perfectly fine

  10. Chuckle all they want. They picked up a boardline D1 player. Have not been to the tournament in 15 years. Lost to us by 30 last year. Their atheltic department as a whole is an absolute failure and could not even hold our jock strap.

  11. Watching roster construction around the AE is starting to feel like Fantasy Sports. We are in the 4th round of the draft after everyone selected their keepers - LOL

  13. Have signed two rightside and two leftside Def. Ends AND will be signing three more LB's that are May graduate transfers. No names but they are looking at some good ones. Coaches tell me that most of the the teams in the league lost key players as well as us [so did Idaho by the way - our week three opponent - their QB among others]. Players want to come to UA becasue of last year's successes.

  14. We have an onsite visit report "sighting". 6'7 kid from Iona coming up this weekend. Will be a sophomore, from London, U.K. and...shocker...he played HS ball in Philly. (Really good Catholic league school). Was pretty highly recruited out of high school. Played only 14mpg as a frosh averaging 3ppg and 3.2 RPG. Sultan Adewale His big offensive performances came against LBSU, Buffalo, Fairfield, St. Peter's, Rider, and St. Francis. Interesting player...a bit raw in some areas but he has some solid potential. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbgC69uJL2w https://twitter.com/SultanAdewale12

  15. Until I find out about some problem with how he was treated by the coaching staff that warranted his leaving the team, I'll agree with dslyank on this one. Any player that would walk out on his team because he was punished for something or didn't like how things were going, instead of stepping up and being a man and correcting the issues and leading the team, has no spot on any roster of mine. I don't care if he is Michael Jordan talent wise. Someone who would walk out on the team is a cancer, and don't let the door hit you on the way out. The above said, that feeling is with the assumption that he quit because of game plan and/or because he was benched/punished for something. If there was some form of actual abuse from the coaching staff, then that is a completely different story that needs to be told for the good of the program and to make a change at the top. Until the whole story is out, he is just a weak quitter that needs to be gone.

  17. In a game as artistically ugIy as you'd expect, I guess why they didn't want to play us - Albany scores 17 runs on only 10 hits, receiving 12 walks, 4 hit by pitch, and 7 errors by LCC. 17-12 final

  18. I don't know. Looks like he is coordinated and athletic. I don't know the competition level, so highlights can be misleading, but the video on Twitter is impressive (as highlight films always are) I'd take a chance at getting someone like him. Year 1: watch him develop and learn the college game. Year 2: watch him be a star at the AE level. Year 3: root for him to do well at a P5. I think a few players like that, along with a few portal wins is a recipe for success at this level. It looks like he is an Aussie. Would love to restart a connection. He's also 20, so not really a typical US freshman.

  19. Jared Verse was very very raw as well...that's going to do nothing but help football...
    1 point
  20. Absolutely. And if the person you can get is a 7 foot project what will likely take 2 years to develop when you are a losing team, then sure. But I can tell you that it's not a recipe for success. For record I don't follow this player. Just read what the "experts" are saying that he is very very raw. We don't get players of his size in our league unless they are. We should not be focusing on raw players on a losing team.

  21. Shouldn't you just sign the best guys you can get? Think about this like football, in the new world, lower schools are a great place for guys to get polished and grow their game. That can only help a team recruit, until they change the transfer rules (which I think after about 2 years, they will)

  22. Nice win and back where UA Lax belongs, AE #1 seed and regular season champs. Merrimack on Thursday. Of note, the Merrimack coach resigned today after 17 seasons and will not coach Thursday's game. Fall out from the racist incident in last game they played.

  25. Was Marcus Fillien on a free ride regardless? Youre playing D1 basketball and you are going for free..not "officially" giving the scholarship helps your team bring in another out-of-state player. Thats a no brainer to me.

  27. You guys like him more than I do. I thought is defense was good. Not great. Fouled a ton. Offensively, he can't create his own shot . Not a great shooter. He hustles. Which is great. To me and I understand its my opinion but he is a 10 minute player on a D1 team.

  28. can not say since it is a rumor - verified by more than one source..................Just remember I said they were looking at a Big Ten Transfer QB.............before there was an offer or commitment........ Rumor has it that there MAY have been a Massive Donation to Athletics.......... That's All Folks..

  29. Racism should never be ignored. Lyle did NOT ignore it, just let his play be his response; and obviously has talked about it often throughout the years to educate and teach. I am sure your quote was NOT condoning Racism, just commenting how the current players involved handled it. IMHO UA and the team pretty much handled it appropriately. Sometimes one must "walk softly and carry a big stick."

  34. Myles (has a really fast pass release) and Trey (very loose) are both looking good. There is a walk on too, don't have the name yet. Freshman can really throw the ball! BTW Reece was visiting the last couple of days. #2 from what I hear!! UA had 4 on official visits at practice yesterday, 2 DB, LB and Punter.

  35. I would say at this point ....no one on the team right now would start on a .500 D1 team. Not one. I believe there are 13 D1 scholarships. If im a D1 coach at this level I'm recruiting Jr's and Srs only. Freshman and sophomores are younger , less developed and will leave before they reach their development. 36. Maybe it's a generational thing. To me it has to be the no "I" in team and the name on the front of the jersey is more important than the name on the back. Sure, go get yours when the season is done. Do what you have to do to be successful, but in the season your teammates are your family. Your coaches are your parents. There may be discipline and tough love, but it's only to make you a better person and player. Sure your brothers might piss you off, but you have a commitment to them to remain family and overcome challenges together. To quit when the going gets tough means you are weak and putting yourself before your family. It takes a pretty abusive relationship to make leaving your family in a bad place acceptable.

  37. Editorial: I wish Scott Marr would take a harder look at the times he schedules a game. Sadly, the game conflicts with the NCAA MBB Tournament, which has turn out to be an interesting tournament. Further, ticketholders will need to dress warmly as the sun will set shortly after the start of the game. You can add another reason to why I may go from a three-sport ticket holder to zero ticket holder and no GDAC donations. I am so absolutely frustrated with our sports administrators and coaches for what seems an increasing laundry list of reasons. About Bryant MLAX w/l 6-3 overall and 2-1 in conference. 38. I would love to have been a fly on the wall to hear Beagle's interview: "... I abandoned my team mid season, when they had a chance to compete for a top 4 spot in their league....yes I was in the portal last year and yes UA took me back when no one wanted me...I am NOT a pussy, just don't like being double teamed all the time, because UA did not have another big to take some of the pressure off me...the pressure was so awful, I had to get away from basketball for awhile... I know at Richmond (or add any other team here who already rejected this BS) "I" will be a Star player for you, as long as you have another BIG to help me with the pressure...." 😝🤪😜

  41. ASP has a story on Beagle's transfer to Richmond, likewise, only wishing him the best. Jonathan has decided to put the Capital District in the rear-view mirror. My gut tells me the same thing about the 2024-2025 season. Killings was lucky last season, however, sometimes luck runs out. As for season ticketholder, there will be fewer, including myself, as Killings and Mark/Vic have turned me off completely.

  42. Whitney had his worst game of the year for sure thought he might get yanked in first half looked bad was guessing not reacting. He should have caught Enders pass clean it was not that bad & he still time to either move forward or run around crease. Felt really bad for Enders as he won that monster faceoff & should have given us an opportunity to win it.

  43. Kikura, Thanks for the history lesson. Athletic Support ending in 91 would explain why most of the (8's) boats I rowed in (02-05) seemed like they were late 80's, early 90's boats (Thomas Whalen, Karen Hitchcock, I know I am missing one or two more) even the 4's were around that vintage Dirigio (name of the company not sure it every got a boat name) not sure how old the Kasper was (the all wooden boat). Thanks for the clarification. Hope to catch there first race this fall.

  44. In my case, I’m a life long area resident and UA grad. I rooted for local teams. When at UA I joined the chorus and the team in green was a hated rival. But I never developed the lingering hatred and loathing many of you have. As the product of a mixed marriage (father a Yankee fan and mother’s family from eastern Mass) I became a Yankees fan, but never developed the hatred of all things Red Sox. And I was happy when they won the WS. Now NFL is another thing entirely. As a passionate Giants fan from early childhood, my heart burns with a hatred of anything Dallas, Philly and Washington. My wife tells me that this is unhealthy. Probably. When Union or RPI are doing well in hockey or football I’ll root for them too.

  45. I wish him luck and nothing but the best. It’s so much more fun when both area teams are doing well and the rivalry prospers. And quite honestly, before UA went D1 I’d always root for $iena to do well, despite the ancient rivalry! now…..how about turning around the train wreck at Broadview?
