Who knows. But I would think every job is up for grabs; that's what happens when you finish 1-10.

Not only after a 1-11 season but with a coaching change everything is fair game. Even Osbourne who was 1st team all CAA. You can never rest on your laurels in Division I.

Mike was the 4th best prospect OT in his state and 21st best overall nationally when he came out with scholarships from many huge programs, including Stanford (which means he ain't dumb either). Former four star recruit. I hope both he and his brother get to anchor our line for 2 years together.

Huge get.

I wonder what the connection to Good Counsel is. That place is a factory on both sides of the ball.

BC? Man, we are getting some good kids all of a sudden. Amazing what the CAA/real stadium/coach with connections can do.

With respect to all those good new things—coach/stadium/conference—can anyone explain how this is all happening? We seem to be suddenly drawing students away from teams with far bigger profiles, far bigger stadiums! Is it about more playing time, or is there some other new buzz?

I think it is a combination of things. Some of these guys might not play at a lower tier FBS team so coming to Albany with a chance to build something with a new staff in a new conference with a new stadium and lots of fan support is probably nice to have in your back pocket when you are talking to these kids.

While new for us, it's not rare for kids to turn down MAC scholarship offers to play in the CAA. The gap between the CAA and the MAC is not very big despite what I'm sure our Buffalo friends will say here shortly.

Turning down Boston College is another thing. That's straight up good recruiting.

Part of the reason is we are getting these kinds of players is that the athletes see the commitment to football. Couple that with a coach with FBS credentials, a new stadium that is expandable it all makes sense.

The other part of the equation is that the majority of these kids who are budding superstars at Albany and most other FCS schools are run of the mill players at the FBS level. It is doubtful we will steal a kid from Florida State or Michigan although we could get the occasional transfer...(see the OL from Boston College who transferred to UA in 2008). I could see many FBS kids from UCONN, UMASS, Buffalo, and Syracuse making their way to UA

Either way, who cares as long as they are coming in. I would expect several more FBS transfer types in the coming years due to Gattuso's FBS connections.
