MBB: 2/17 vs. Stony Brook (Coaches Cure CF Game)

I'm surprised you didn't hear it as I am just a few rows behind you lol. It was near the end with maybe 2 or 3 minutes left.

I'll second the people changing the pace or going off beat during the defense chants. It did happen a few times last night. That said, I also like the increasing pace of chants during opponent foul shots. Our crowd tends to just get really loud to interrupt concentration. That works sometimes, but I have been to some games at other venues (my high school back in the early 90s being one) where the crowd stomped and chanted together starting slow and slowly going faster and faster until the player shoots. Supposedly it can mess with heart rate and cause misses.

If you look at musically sound metal music, the beat is typically just a few ticks faster than the average heartbeat. This actually gets your heart pumping. Some start slower and then speed up in certain spots. Same theory applies when messing with opponents lol.

The crowd was amazing again. Everyone talks about how hard it is to play well in Patrick Gym, but I have to say that I am sure that NOBODY wants to play at SEFCU when there is an at or near capacity crowd. We all want renovations and improvements to the venue, but whatever happens I hope they do all that can to keep the environment the same.

Best part of the night? The entire pep band putting down their instruments and chanting NIT NIT NIT!

They need to find a way to keep the bleechers hollow. I think one of the things that gives us a nice tool during games is the foot stomp. Which brings me to a point...I appreciate the football team, etc. showing up...but please learn how to do a defense chant in the SEFCU. Don't get faster as you chant it, it becomes near impossible to stomp your foot or even clap your hands towards the end. It's a useless chant at that point. Also, I know someone here has a daughter who's a cheerleader...please tell them that when fans (me, click and others in 200) start a chant, to join in on the rhythm chosen and to NOT go off on their own tangent and basically over power the fan (me, click and others in 200). This didn't happen last night, but it has happened a few times this year. I know they can hear me because I'm loud as hell. They definitely hear the section when a few of us get going. Get behind me/us and I/we will lead you to victory!

(okay, I got a little carried away there hahaha)

As for the NIT NIT NIT comment...I didn't hear the band do it but I heard some girls next to me in section 200 do it. I LOL'ed. It was great.

my daughter graduated in May.....I at least got grandfathered in to continue to go to all the games on UA's dime since I was one of the few parents who supported both the men's and women's teams....either way, last night was a great great atmosphere!!!

Also, pretty cool that they did some halftime entertainment... From my seats:

You're a lot closer to me than I thought, haha.

I dunno, it wasn't my cup of tea, but I'm glad they got something a little different in there from the usual stuff they do. I'm waiting until they get people doing dunks off trampolines, stacking plates on a unicycle, etc. That's the kind of stuff I wanna see haha.

Lol, I'm only 2 rows behind you. Haven't said hi yet because anonymity is fun. I think you can see your hat in the bottom of the screen a few times. While the camera on my phone is very good, the digital zoom sucks.

It was kind of funny. At one point, during Warney's important FT's...they went over to talk to a security guard in front of the football team. (A security usher who was seated). Warney had complained about one of the fans, the one in the Fisherman's outfit, waving his fishing pole (or so it seemed).

That player/person: DJ Crook. I loved it.

Will Brunson was dressed in some sort of Irish costume...and Nicastro brought a Thor hammer.

IT was great.

It's on the MBB twitter feed https://twitter.com/UAlbany_MBB but I don't know how to embed the video from twitter

No big deal... The next clip on SportsCenter was Top Buzzer-Beater of the Day, from SUNY-Old Westbury (!!??!!)

The play itself is also on the America East.tv highlight video at the 1:00 in.

I looked too and I don't see them on Youtube, so only Twitter and the AE hasn't posted the direct video links on their website.

A couple things looking back on the game..

- If I'm able to read the play-by-play correctly..there were 9 offensive fouls called in the game. Crazy.

- UAlbany was +17 from the point Puriefoy picked-up his second foul..and went to the bench..at the 7:36 mark in the first half.

and that has always been my contention, STOP or contain Puriefoy first cuz Warney will get his no matter what...Puriefoy is who makes them go every game......I liked how Coach Brown started attacking him in the second half to get him out of the game foul wise....

What a great game. An important win in front of that crowd. I'm hopeful wins that like that with that kind of energy in the building will build that fan base, specifically the students.

Great game plan and incredible team effort. I know a handful of his points came down the stretch from the line but Cremo w/ 16 points in 14 minutes. Solid. Hooley a double double.

Just a lot of fun.

I'm so happy to hear that SEFCU is drawing large numbers of enthusiastic fans this year. I don't hear much from fans of other conference teams about the difficulty of playing at UA, but I imagine coaches of other teams instruct their players on the hostile environment.
