Other than losing Poffenbarger, which obviously is a huge loss, this could be a long term net positive.  First Verse, then Juncaj and now Poff, at the very least, this will great a revolving door at Albany of talent that can use us as a place to get attention and stats and playing time.  While, I hate the loss of players after only a couple of years, I think it should create a winning program in the long run.  I mean, getting a Big 10 back-up QB is a pretty big deal.

Agree......well said

I would also say that we gotta expect change soon w/ transfers and transfer portals. When big name coaches are saying something needs to change, the NCAA can only look away for so long. Something tells me a 1x free transfer is coming, with everything after that being some time sitting.

So does Burkett step in and start? Does he become a FCS star? Is he just competition and challenge to help Van Weber improve? Guess we will find out in the fall, but it seems like a great get for UA in helping to keep the team competitive. I don't think any of us think that the team will repeat this years success, but it would be amazing to have them make the playoffs two years in a row and this could help with that goal.

We need too otherwise what are we doing here? We need to be .500 or better year in, year out. Otherwise coach, as good as this year was, can hit the road. We need a coach who is winning 60% of his games every year, not one who lucks into one dominant year and 3 or 4 crap years.

I would imagine Burkett was told he will be given every opportunity to start.  We will probably be QB1 on the depth chart to start.  What he does with it and up to him, but I doubt he will just be handed it.

While I HOPE you are right. All indications seem to me the “age of free agency” in college sports looks to expand not be scaled back. In all PRO sports have you ever seen freedom of movement reversed once instituted?

But of course NCAA is not a professional league———————————yet🤪😒

Jimbo Fisher made an interesting thought on Pardon My Take the other day. He said he agrees with letting kids do what they gotta and gets the free agency aspect of things. He states the issue is imagine professional teams having every single team as Free Agents every year. That’s what college, especially football, sports is right now. Said that is hard to sustain.

Definitely an interesting way to look at it. Wonder if we will start to see employment contracts with non-competes or 2,3 or 4-year terms and buy-outs/escape clauses included in the not so distant future. I mean some Ivy League kids are trying to unionize claiming to be employees. Others are looking for direct pay in addition to scholarships and NIL money because of what they create for the schools. I am all for freedom and people getting what they can, but calling them Student Athlete Employees is different than just Student-Athletes and employment laws add all kinds of new wrinkles. It is going to be an interesting watch over the next few years.

I know the education aspect is the last thing considered but how does all this work in terms of earning your degree?

If I play collegiately at 5 different schools in 5 different years do I automatically get my degree from the last school? Are all credits transferable? Because I would go totally nomadic for the first four years and then finish at Harvard,  Princeton, or Yale for one year if that was the case.
